General Information & Responsibilities
The Part-time behavioral health technician's primary function is to assess, triage, screen, and refer students to the appropriate College and community resources based on individual needs. The behavioral health technician will also educate the Black Hawk College community on how to identify mental health issues, assist and refer students.
Description of Duties
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
a. The behavioral health technician functions as an assistant to the College counselor in providing safety observations, redirection/de-escalation, and care for students identified to be at risk to themselves and/or others.
b. The behavioral health technician performs intake assessments, triages, screens, and refers students to the appropriate College and community resources based on individual needs, which may include: Food, housing, acute crisis referral, counseling appointments, and reporting to the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).
c. The behavioral health technician interacts with the faculty counselor and the College Police Department to insure student and community safety and well-being.
d. The behavioral health technician provides mental health and wellness presentations to the Black Hawk community.
e. The behavioral health technician maintains documentation of a student’s mood, mental sharpness, sleeping patterns, eating habits and overall function to support student well-being
f. The behavioral health technician recognizes and reports early signs of escalation to the Counseling and/or Campus Police department
g. The behavioral health technician will collect data on student utilization of Counseling and reasons for seeking assistance
h. The behavioral health technician communicates and effectively interfaces with College departments, students, faculty and staff

Education & Experience

a. Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field or in lieu of Bachelor's, an Associate’s Degree in Psychology or related field and two years of mental/behavioral health experience.
